Peoria County Sustainability Team Formed
In the past month, Peoria County had its first meeting of its newly formed environmental sustainability team. This group consists of about a half dozen county staff that have a shared interest and passion for making the county more sustainable, and they met to discuss how to green the county’s operations as well as the county as a whole. The group will be working to inventory the sustainability efforts as it stands today and to identify both short and long term solutions. It is hoped that the team will be able to make initial recommendations to the County Board by early next year.
The Global Warming Solutions Group and other local environmental groups have been invited to participate and lend a hand in the process. Earlier this year, the Solutions Group presented a detailed set of recommendations to the county administration as to what we think the county can effectively do to become more sustainable. This recommendation is centered around the concept that every decision that Peoria County makes needs to move it toward becoming a Carbon-Neutral, Non-Toxic, Zero-Waste, and Resource-Focused steward of County assets.

The Heart of Illinois 9-12 Project is holding a “CONSTITUTION REVOLUTION PATRIOTS’ PARTY” at LIBERTY PARK – PEORIA RIVERFRONT on Friday, September 24, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
I think it would be beneficial to the sustainability cause if someone from the Peoria County Sustainability Team could arrange to give a presentation during this time.
