Cool Residents

A do-it-yourself guide to reducing your carbon footprint.

One of the major goals of the Solutions Group is to promote the signing of Cool Cities agreements by the local communities in the area.  Whether or not you live in one of the Cool Cities, there are certainly a lot of steps you can take on an individual level to minimize your impact on global warming.  Indeed, it will take a cumulative effort of governments (local and federal), businesses, industry, and individuals to make the changes necessary to combat global warming.

There are so many choices and decisions to be made, that it can be difficult to know where to start.  In keeping with the methodology that a city undertakes in the Cool Cities program, here is an approach to help you focus on impactful change.  As you examine each step of the process, we will provide guidance to the tools and ideas needed for success.

Step 1: Pledge

Make a personal pledge to take action steps to minimize your impact on global warming.

Step 2:  Assess

Assess your impact by taking an inventory of your carbon footprint using a carbon calculator.

Step 3:  Plan

Create an action plan of manageable steps based on the assessment in step 2.

Step 4:  Implement

Implement the action plan and take pride in the fact that you are doing your part to protect our ability to live on the planet.

To make the process more interesting and fun, we recommend doing this with a spouse, partner, or friend.  Share the adventure or spark a competition!
