Did you look at Rheem tanklesss (a Home Depot product), Rinnai or Bosch? Those three jplus the Navien are the ones I have specifications for, although only Navien mentions condensing energy . Reading & Son Plulmbing came to my house with some literature on rinnai and Navien and promised an estimate.
They talked about outside wall versus inside wall. Also all four brands seem to qualify ( I was told) for the Ameren and Federal discounts.
Any comments?

thanks, david

I did look at specs on all those brands. The Bosch got ripped on quality in the reviews I found. The others, at least that I found, required the double walled stainless steel exhaust pipe which would have driven the price up tremendously for me. That pipe itself is very expensive, and I would have had to rip out a wall and replace it to get the bigger pipe installed. I'm not positive - but I think the Rinnai may have had a higher efficiency condensing model. If you have a location to put it close to an external wall with a short path for the exhaust the other models shouldn't be a problem. And I'd guess would be cheaper overall.
